Modernizing Accessibility & Usability for a Missouri Nonprofit

Gateway Digital Accessibility partnered with Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty to improve usability, modernize the user experience, and create a more accessible digital presence for advocacy and engagement.

The Challenge

When Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty (MADP) began evaluating its digital presence, the organization was facing significant operational challenges. Leadership had recently changed, internal processes needed rebuilding, and donor confidence had been impacted by issues inherited from previous management.

At a time when the organization needed to strengthen engagement and rebuild trust, its website was not effectively supporting its mission.

The existing site suffered from:

  • Inconsistent visual hierarchy

  • Difficult-to-scan content

  • Accessibility and usability barriers

  • Unclear pathways for engagement and donations

  • An outdated user experience that did not reflect the professionalism of the organization or the importance of its work

The goal was not simply to redesign a website; the goal was to create a clearer, more accessible digital experience that could better support advocacy, education, and donor engagement.

Nichole helped us modernize our website during a critical period of organizational rebuilding. Her accessibility expertise extended beyond the website itself, helping us address language and communication barriers we had not previously considered. The result was a clearer, more professional, and more accessible experience for our supporters, donors, and board members.
